Luzhnetskaya Embarkment

The new residential district is located on the banks of the Moscow River, on one of the city’s most important embankments. All coastal buildings in the project are aligned in height, contrary to the original brief. While supporting the principle of waterfront design, formed in the 1940s and 50s, this solution also provides more apartments with river views and creates a lower-rise environment on the inner territories of the quarter.

The facades are coated with light stone and upper floors feature metal details and decorative fragments. Bricks and wood are also used. The exterior of the complex keeps the pattern of the embankment buildings and remains as austere as the stalinist empire buildings surrounding it. On the upper floors, however, it becomes more dynamic.

In the first line of the embankment there are one-story pavilions. The pavilions are a part of the complex’s enclosure and are neatly incorporated into the corten steel fence. Some of them house shops and cafes, while others serve as entrances to the complex. The shape and material of the pavilions are designed to remind of the old factory buildings demolished during the project construction.
